‘The wait is almost over’: Kennywood’s marquee coaster should have a reopening date soon

Workers are currently installing new columns for the coaster and test rides are slated to begin soon.

Work on Kennywood’s Steel Curtain remains underway but, a park official promises, “The wait is almost over.”

In a video released Wednesday by Kennywood, general manager Ricky Spicuzza said that the reopening date of the marquee roller coaster, which was shuttered all last season, should be announced soon.

Current work includes the installation of massive yellow columns, which, Spicuzza said, will be followed by two trains being added back to the track.

With the opening of the West Mifflin park one month out — the first day of the season is April 12 — early season park-goers might even see those trains going through test runs.

Kennywood officials announced last April that the coaster would be closed for the 2024 season, saying it would undergo an “extensive modification project.”

That announcement was quickly met with criticism, even prompting a lawsuit against the park that alleged officials hid the fact that the roller coaster would be closed to boost sales for the 2024 season.

Column work for the ride has been in progress since October, per park officials
