As Kennywood Park gets closer to allowing passengers onto the Steel Curtain, the record-setting roller coaster at the West Mifflin park must first be put it through its paces.
On Saturday, workers at the park began testing the ride before the park opened — between 5:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., according to a Kennywood spokesman.
On Sunday, the park is planning more tests, “perhaps while the park is open to the public,” said Nick Paradise in a release.
It may be a first chance for park attendees to get their first glimpse of the new ride in action.
The Steel Curtain will have the most inversions — nine — of any North American coaster, including the world’s tallest inversion at 197 feet, and will be Pennsylvania’s tallest coaster at 220 feet.
Recently, Mr. Paradise said the park is aiming to do 1,000 test runs, though he said the park may run more — some with full loads, some with partial loads, covering a range of variables to ensure a quality and safe experience.
The coaster will be the centerpiece of Steelers Country, which Kennywood plans to open this summer.
