Lake Erie and tributaries (Erie County) Rain, wind and temperatures over 40 degrees weakened ice, but some anglers continued to report good fishing. Yellow perch were caught under ice off the city side of Presque Isle Bay. Perch and bluegill, including 10-inch slabs, took small live minnows under Horseshoe Pond. On Saturday, two Pittsburgh area anglers reported a 24-inch Northern pike and several slab yellow perch were iced on a lagoon north of East Fisher Drive. Most tributary sections were frozen over. On one Lake Erie trib, however, a Pittsburgh angler encountered shallow water and low flow, but caught steelhead on egg sacs. A high of 42 degrees, rain and snow were predicted for the Erie region on Friday. Snow showers and 34 degrees were expected Saturday, with a high of 18 degrees Sunday.
Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County) Up-and-down temperatures caused several inches of unstable white ice to form over about 10 inches of good clear ice. On Sunday, fish were slow and disinterested until dark, when panfish began feeding aggressively. A 14-inch crappie was caught.
Tionesta Reservoir (Forest County) Many shanties were set up near the dam and boat launch. Live minnows were the preferred bait.
Tionesta Outflow (Forest County) Water was open just below the dam. Muskies, Northerns and other game fish were taken from the campground wall.
Lake Arthur (Butler County) Outstanding ice fishing was reported over the entire lake Wednesday. Anglers baited with big minnows and young suckers to pull muskellunge and Northern pike through the ice. Perch, panfish and bass went for blue and silver jigs tipped with mealworms or waxworms. Jigs tipped with wiggly butter worms were hot. Good catches were reported around dawn and dusk off Five Points and McDanel’s Boat Launch. Many holes were augered off the Route 528 access.
Glendale Lake (Cambria County) Panfish and perch took jigs tipped with waxworms. Northern pike, chain pickerel and bass went for large shiners under tip-ups.
Lake Rowena, Duman Lake (Cambria County) Ice anglers reported catches of panfish and trout.
Brady’s Run Lake (Beaver County) Rainbow trout took live minnows and paste baits Saturday and Sunday. By midweek, the weather had weakened ice in some areas.
North Park Lake (Allegheny County) Catches of trout and perch were reported Saturday through Tuesday.
Keystone Lake (Westmoreland County) Uncertain white ice topped solid clear ice Wednesday. Last weekend, ice anglers reported trout and panfish caught on live minnows and paste baits.
Twin Lakes (Westmoreland County) Cold weather on Monday produced 7 solid inches of ice and “a very hot trout bite,” said one angler.
Cross Creek Lake (Washington County) Catches of crappies up to 10 inches were reported through holes augered off the boat launch parking area. Perch and crappies were caught over drop-offs near the dam.
High Point Lake (Somerset County) Waxworms and minnows were hot.
Laurel Hill Lake (Somerset County) Under good ice, trout took live minnows and tipped jigs.
