For three years, workers at U.S. Steel’s Irvin Plant in West Mifflin have enjoyed keeping tabs on a pair of bald eagles nesting at the plant.
Now, they’re ready to share with the rest of us.
U.S. Steel officials said on Tuesday they had launched a new live-streaming camera, trained on the birds 24 hours a day.
“Our employees have enjoyed watching the birds, and we wanted to find a way to share their activity with the broader community,” said Don German, Irvin Plant manager. “We are honored to have the bald eagle, a symbol of American pride, living and thriving comfortably at our facility.”
Employees at the Mon Valley Works facility noticed the birds in 2019, as they built a nest and, a year later, fledged their first eaglet, U.S. Steel said in a release. The company took steps then to protect the birds, which have since been named Irvin and Claire, after Mon Valley Works facilities.
After receiving permission from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, U.S. Steel teamed up with PixCams, the same company that provides viewing cams at the bald eagle nest in Pittsburgh’s Hays section.
