On trout stream sections regulated for Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only, harvest season opened June 15. The daily creel limit is three combined trout species with a minimum size of 9 inches until one hour after sunset Labor Day. Fly- and spinner-only regulations apply.
Lake Erie (Erie County) Under a nice morning walleye chop off the Clay Banks Wednesday, one party kept five ’eyes and tossed several throwaways taken 1 foot off the bottom in about 40 feet of water. Early on Father’s Day, trolling worm harnesses 1 foot off the bottom about 40 yards off Trout Run, seven walleye were taken, several were lost at the boat and a half-dozen sublegals were discarded. A chance of scattered thunderstorms over Erie was expected Saturday.
Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County) Two largemouth bass measuring 18 and 20 inches took soft plastics and were released in waters out of Launch No. 2.
Allegheny River (Venango County) Walleye took spinners and jerk baits near Oil City. Anglers caught flathead catfish on live and cut bait at dusk.
French Creek (Venango County) The smallmouth bite was good throughout the creek.
Lake Arthur (Butler County) A 42-inch muskellunge was caught and released just after dawn Monday by an angler trolling a bucktail near the Route 422 bridge. Crappies held near the bottom at about 15 feet, and largemouth bass were taken from weeds at the edges of drop-offs.
Keystone Power Dam (Armstrong County) Good fishing was reported near Reefer’s Cove. Throughout the lake, anglers caught walleye, largemouths and smallmouths.
Yellow Creek Lake (Indiana County) Catfish and Northern pike were taken around dusk near the Sailing Launch, and largemouths were taking everything thrown at them.
Allegheny River (Allegheny County) Patrick Caslin of Sacramento, Calif., caught his first fish, a 15-inch flathead catfish, on a nightcrawler in waters off the North Shore during Venture Outdoors’ TriAnglers fishing program Wednesday. Three channel cats in the 18-inch range and seven sublegal smallmouth bass were also released. TriAnglers meets 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesdays under the Clemente Bridge. Monongahela River (Allegheny County) Anglers pulled smallmouths and walleye from the tailrace below the Elizabeth lock and dam. Muskellunge were caught at the mouths of feeder streams.
Loyalhanna Lake (Westmoreland County) Big catches of crappies were reported in the deep but narrow neck above Bush Campground. Fish and Boat staff said a routine check of new fish-enhancement structures found hundreds of fish on the platforms sunk near Serviceberry Run and Bush Recreation Area. Largemouths were caught by boaters trolling brightly colored lures near the dam.
Kiskiminetas River (Westmoreland County) Kayakers who put in before light at the Roaring Run Launch pounded the smallmouths at dawn.
Cross Creek Lake (Washington County) Crappies were off points in 6-10 feet of water, and small bluegills were everywhere on these Panfish Enhancement Program waters. Bass were pulled from nearshore grass.
Monongahela River (Washington County) Walleye and smallmouths were taken below the lock and dam at Charleroi.
Meadow Run (Fayette County) Fish and Boat reported good-sized trout taken in the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section, part of the Keystone Select program.
Dunbar Creek (Fayette County) Trout were caught in the bait fishing section.
