Regardless of age, all first-time hunters and trappers have to successfully complete a Hunter-Trapper Education course before they can buy a license. Applicants must be at least age 11 to attend the class. Prior to attending a class, a four-hour online independent study program must be completed. Access the online training log at www.pgc.state.pa.us and click on the Hunter-Trapper Education Classes link. The classroom training session lasts six hours, followed by a certification exam. A training certificate, recognized throughout North America, is awarded at the end of a course.
