Mobility-challenged fishing

Anglers with limited mobility are invited to a trout fishing event, free with prior registration, Sun., May 18 at the Sleepy Hollow bridge on Loyalhanna Creek in Westmoreland County. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will block motor traffic on the low cement bridge connecting eastbound and westbound Route 30 west of Ligonier, one mile east of Route 217.

Bring your fishing license and gear. Or the Fish and Boat Commission will waive license requirements and provide rods, tackle and adaptive gear that accommodates fishing in mobility devices. Live bait provided. On-the-water coaching by outdoors editor John Hayes and members of Forbes Trail Trout Unlimited.

No leisurely watching of bobbers -- it's active fast-water fishing for recently stocked brown and rainbow trout. Size and creel limits apply; catch and release encouraged. Free, space limited to the first 20 mobility-challenged anglers to register at 412-263-1991 or jhayes@post-gazette.com.
