Shelter Soulmates is a bi-weekly column featuring adoptable animals from shelters and 501(c)(3) rescues. All animals were available at the time of publication.
Sophie
Sophie is a sweet and affectionate 15-year-old cat who came to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh in late October after her owner died. She has a big personality and knows what she wants: to be the only feline in a calm, quiet home where she can relax and soak up all the love.
Sophie adores head, neck, ear and cheek rubs and will happily let you know when she’s ready for attention. She enjoys using scratching posts and being brushed and is a “social eater” who appreciates a little company at mealtime.
As a senior kitty, Sophie does have some medical needs, which HARP’s staff will be happy to discuss with interested adopters. She’s currently in foster care, where she’s thriving, and ready to meet her forever family.
If you’re looking for a loving companion with a gentle spirit, Sophie could be the perfect match. For more information, go to humaneanimalrescue.org.
Starship
Starship is a mixed-breed dog who was returned to Animal Friends after her owner could no longer care for her. She is 5 years old and weighs nearly 47 pounds.
She’s a high-energy and playful dog who takes time to get used to new people and is extra nervous around strangers. So, multiple meet and greets may be necessary for her to get comfortable before going home.
Once she is comfortable, she is the star — captivating the attention of everyone around her who she loves.
Starship is not able to live in an apartment complex or other multifamily home and should live in a no-cat, adult-only household. She could live with another dog, pending a successful meet and greet.
She’s one of Animal Friends Extra Loved residents, many of whom need a little extra care, attention and patience. To help these animals find their forever homes, a generous donor has sponsored her adoption costs.
Starship is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. To learn more or fill out an adoption application, go to thinkingoutsidethecage.org.
Potter
Potter is a 5-year-old pit bull mix who came to the Washington Area Humane Society as a stray. Abandoned in Washington Park, he’s a sweet boy who needs someone he can depend on and trust.
Potter is very playful and likes dogs with the same spirit that he has. He spreads joy wherever he goes!
He has been medically and behaviorally evaluated and comes fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Potter will need to meet all humans and canines before going home with them and should not live in a household with children under 10 due to his enthusiasm.
