Shelter Soulmates is a bi-weekly column spotlighting adoptable pets from Pittsburgh area shelters and 501c3 rescues. All animals were available at the time of listing.
Jamie Lee Catis
Jamie Lee Catis is a 2-year-old Egyptian Mau, which means “street cat" in Arabic. Maus have spots, a rarity among cats, and are typically slimmer than their American counterparts. They also have larger ears to help keep them cool as temperatures in their native country often reach 100 degrees.
Jamie Lee arrived in the U.S. at just 7 months old after flying thousands of miles from Oman. Few people have pets in Oman and fewer people help with the overpopulation of cats running the streets. She was in the care of a kind woman who was fostering over 100 cats, waiting for an opportunity to get each of them to the United States.
Jamie Lee is cross-eyed and although one eye is cloudy and there is some damage to her cornea, she can see out of it and does not require drops or medication. She is a happy, spunky girl and would make a great companion for someone as either an only cat or as a friend to another, younger cat.
Jamie Lee is one of six cats available for adoption at Ricki's Rescue, a sanctuary in Overbrook for disabled and special needs cats. She has grown up in the sanctuary.

Emily
Emily is a 2-year-old, mixed-breed dog who is mostly deaf but knows some hand signals. She thrives in a loving environment where she knows the routine and expectations.
Paws Across Pittsburgh sent Emily for four weeks of boarding and training at PetSuites in Cranberry. While there, she learned basic skills and became comfortable in a home environment. She is doing well with her crate training and is completely house-trained.
Emily loves all humans and enjoys the company of medium to large dogs. She is not a fan of cats, though. She is a 55-pound cuddler who likes to be with people all of the time. She requires a privacy fence to keep her safe. (She has keen vision and a great nose.)
Emily comes with a free training package so she can continue all the skills she has learned in her new home. To learn more about this special dog, fill out an online application at pawsacrosspittsburgh.com/adopt.
Chakra
Chakra is a 7-year-old, mixed-breed dog who made his way to Animal Friends through the humane investigations department. Through no fault of his own, he has spent the last 3½ years waiting for his former owner's court case to clear and now is ready for his forever home.
This 55-pounder is a staff and volunteer favorite. How could he not be? Look at that face!
Don't let his age fool you. It does not stop him from being a goofy, energetic pup. He loves being outside on a sunny day and sunbathing while chewing on his toys.
Chakra is looking for an adult-only, single-pet only home and his ideal adopters should have a fenced-in yard where he can run and play safely. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped.
Chakra is part of Animal Friends’ foster-to-adopt program, which means he comes with four weeks of training, along with his new owner, as he acclimates to his new home.
To learn more about Chakra, go to ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org and visit Animal Friends at 562 Camp Horne Road in Ohio Township.
