Cranberry-based clothing retailer rue21 is partnering with The Trevor Project to celebrate Pride Month and raise awareness for the nonprofit’s mission to support the LGBTQ community.
The retail chain, which includes nearly 700 brick-and-mortar locations across the country, launched this month an exclusive Pride-themed collection, including colorful accessories, graphic tees with empowering phrases on them, rainbow jewelry, face masks and footwear. Another highlight is a gender-neutral fragrance called UNITY ($12.99).
“rue21 is known for its inclusive fashion that gives our loyal customers accessible options to celebrate their individuality. That’s why we’re thrilled to release a Pride collection that is fun, bold and creative and gives our customers the opportunity to become ambassadors for tolerance, acceptance and love,” rue21 CEO Bill Brand said in a prepared statement.
As part of the partnership with The Trevor Project, rue21 donated $50,000 to support its efforts to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention to LGBTQ young people. rue21 store locations also will post stickers, signage and other infographics about The Trevor Project throughout June to bring more attention to the organization’s work. An online awareness campaign also will be carried out by rue21 online.
“We’re thrilled to see rue21 empowering young people of all identities to celebrate their authentic selves,” said Sofi Goode, senior corporate development associate at The Trevor Project.
Pieces from the Pride collection are also available in plus sizes and can be shopped in person and online at rue21.com.
