At Juju in Point Breeze, witchcraft isn’t just something to do with Halloween. It’s a lifestyle.
“Witches are not to be feared. They’re here to help, they’re healers. They’re called to service in their community,” says shop owner Leslie McAllister, a self-declared witch.
She stocks Juju — which she describes as “a metaphysical lifestyle store” — with crystals, books, candles, tinctures and accessories to help people tap into their own inner magic. She offers tarot readings on site, too.
Her sister, Marnie Loesel, who lives in Erie, designs dangling bead-crocheted earrings by hand in black, gold, brown and purple ($78 per pair). Also for sale are half-moon necklaces ($45) from the brand Above/Below in Rhode Island. They’re crafted out of vibrant agate, a stone that some associate with calming properties.
“I love moon jewelry,” Ms. McAllister says. “I look for something that’s mystical and empowering” so customers can carry that energy with them.
Many view witches as a symbol of female empowerment and strength. Therefore, all jewelry is handmade by women or from companies owned by women, Ms. McAllister says.
Stop by Juju at 6739 Reynolds St., Point Breeze, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Information: shop-juju.com.
