Sparkling footwear at $39.90, all from DSW at the Waterfront: from left, a thong by Skechers, a chocolate mule by Laundry, a kitten-heeled design with threaded soles by Coconuts and a jeweled and sequined black pump by l.e.i.
Cinderella barely averted a fashion catastrophe.
Suppose the prince, in his hasty pursuit of her, had dropped that clunky glass slipper and shattered it?
On the other hand, had she been wearing, say, a pair of Moroccan-inspired, closed-toe pumps embellished with sparkling jewels, stones, sequins, beads and metallic thread embroidery -- he may have proposed right there at the ball.
Whether for evening affairs with muckety-mucks or everyday futzing around with friends, women of all ages are wearing jeweled shoes this summer. From thong sandals and wedges to mules and heels, the colorful, often elaborate detailing makes them a fashion statement made by ordinary women as well as Hollywood celebs.
The style is equally comfortable with shorts and capris, jeans and gauchos, dresses and gowns. It can be dressy enough for work but casual enough for play. It can provide the only glitz in an ensemble or complement a similar bohemian-meets-Eastern design in a belt, tunic top or handbag.
And at the height of summer, it's not hard to find them. Just look for a store that sells women's shoes and you're almost sure to find a pair -- glittering and gleaming as if they're trying their best to catch your eye.
