PPG creates mobility team to focus on paints for self-driving cars

Paints giant PPG is solidifying its focus on coatings for self-driving and electric cars with the creation of a mobility team.

The group will be headed by Ranju Arya, who on Monday was named senior business director, mobility, effective immediately.

It will be based in Troy, Mich., and supported by team members in Pittsburgh, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, PPG said.

At the North American International Auto Show last month, PPG showcased some of the technologies it’s already working on for autonomous vehicles, including coatings for dark vehicles that better reflect infrared signals from self-driving car sensors and coatings for battery packs used in electric and hybrid cars.

Mr. Arya will report to Gary Danowski, vice president, automotive OEM coatings; and Tim Knavish, senior vice president, industrial coatings. Mr. Arya previously was account director, automotive OEM coatings.
