Cheswick power plant has a new owner that will tear it down

As promised, Charah Solutions Inc, an environmental remediation company based in Kentucky, has taken ownership of the Cheswick Generating Station.

The 52-year-old coal-fired power plant in Springdale stopped producing electricity at the end of last month.

Charah, which will decommission the plant, also took over the coal ash landfill 3 miles from the power plant, as well as a water treatment facility.

The deal between GenOn, Cheswick’s prior owner, and Charah was announced late last year.
