Retired H.J. Heinz CEO Sir Anthony O’Reilly and his former personal nurse, Sabina Vidunas, have agreed to enter mediation to try to settle Ms. Vidunas’ claims alleging that Mr. O’Reilly reneged on a promise to pay her some $40 million worth of stock as compensation, according to court documents.
The mediation, to be held on or before Aug. 1, was scheduled at the urging of U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jeffery A. Deller in Pittsburgh.
In the meantime, Judge Deller is delaying a decision on Mr. O’Reilly’s motion to have his bankruptcy case in the Bahamas recognized in U.S. courts.
The former billionaire, 83, declared bankruptcy in 2015 and was hoping to have the case recognized in the U.S. in an effort to block Ms. Vidunas’ lawsuit — which she filed in federal court in Pittsburgh in 2013 — from moving forward.
H.J. Heinz Co. was based in Pittsburgh. It merged with Kraft Foods in 2015 to create Kraft Heinz.
