Block Communications Inc., owner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, has inked a contract with Continental Real Estate Services to sell the former PG building at 34 Blvd. of the Allies, Downtown.
Tentative plans are to extensively renovate the building, update mechanicals and replace the exterior, said Barry Ford, president of development at Columbus, Ohio-based Continental. Expanding the size of the building by adding floors is also under consideration.
“There’s nothing definitive, but we’re working on an option to renovate and expand the existing building,” Mr. Ford said Friday. “We’re still in the planning stages.”
A mix of residential and office uses is being considered, he said. “We’re trying to come up with the best combination.”
The building housed the Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Press, which the Post-Gazette bought in 1993 after an extended strike. The Post-Gazette moved its offices to the North Shore last year and its presses are now located in Clinton.
