Alison Beam, former acting Pennsylvania health secretary, hired by UPMC

Former acting Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Alison Beam has been named chief government relations officer at UPMC.

Ms. Beam — who has a law degree from Drexel University and an undergraduate degree in health policy and administration from Penn State University — succeeds Scott Baker, who held the position at UPMC for 10 years.

Ms. Beam’s appointment at hospital and health insurance giant came several weeks after she stepped down from her role at the Department of Health on Dec. 31.

“It’s an honor to take on this role as I have experienced first hand UPMC’s firm commitment to serving the community and advocating for optimal health care for citizens of the state and beyond,” Ms. Beam said in a statement.

State Department of Health Executive Deputy Secretary Keara Klinepeter speaks in Mechanicsburg on Aug. 12, 2021. Ms. Klinepeter — a graduate of Chatham and Carnegie Mellon universities — has been tapped as the next acting health secretary of Pennsylvania. She will succeed Alison Beam, who will depart at the end of the year, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Monday, Dec. 13, 2021.
