Health department shuts down Savoy restaurant for second time for COVID-19 violations

Savoy restaurant in the Strip District was ordered closed for the second time this year by the Allegheny County Health Department for COVID-19 related health code violations.

The upscale restaurant on Penn Avenue was cited for serving customers at the bar, serving alcoholic drinks without a meal, serving drinks after 11 p.m. and exceeding the occupancy limit.

The inspection report indicated that the visit was triggered by a complaint.

The restaurant was shut down on Oct. 23, but as of late last week, the notice had not been posted on the health department’s website.

Savoy also was ordered closed on Sept. 23 for similar violations.

There was no answer at the restaurant this morning.

So far this year, the health department has temporarily shuttered roughly 15 businesses for pandemic-related violations.
