Nicky's Thai Kitchen on the North Side ordered to close for health code violations

Nicky's Thai Kitchen on the North Side ordered to close for health code violations

Update: Nicky’s Thai Kitchen was cleared by the health department to reopen on May 14.

Nicky’s Thai Kitchen at 856 Western Ave., North Side, was ordered closed by the Allegheny County Health Department because of multiple food safety violations.

The restaurant was cited for more than a dozen serious problems, including holding multiple foods at unsafe temperatures, unsafe cooling practices, prepared foods not marked with discard dates, cross-contamination involving raw chicken and the dishwasher not sanitizing.

An inspector also observed bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat salad items, as well as “fresh and old” mouse droppings inside plates, dishware, large pans, in between boxes of food, and on shelving and walls in the basement, which is used for food preparation.

The department’s report indicated that the inspection was prompted by a complaint. The facility was ordered to remain closed until the problems were fixed.

The operator of the restaurant couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Inspection reports for food facilities in the county are available online at www.achd.net.
