Spilling over: Evoqua to bring sustainability and innovation hub to Lawrenceville

Spilling over: Evoqua to bring sustainability and innovation hub to Lawrenceville

A Downtown-based water treatment company is launching a new sustainability and innovation hub in Lawrenceville.

Evoqua Water Technologies is establishing the new center in the Regional Industrial Development Corporation’s Tech Forge facility, where it has signed a lease for 17,912 square feet of space for offices and labs.

Terms were not disclosed.

With the decision, Evoqua plans to consolidate various lab operations within its real estate portfolio at the site.

Evoqua Water Technologies collected nearly 1,000 three-ounce vials containing melted ice shavings from scores of area ice rinks at the Pittsburgh Penguins Free Game for Kids.

It hopes to move into the new space next month.

“Pittsburgh is our company’s home, and we are pleased to be investing locally in a facility that’s nearby and will suit our needs as both a lab and office space,” said Brian Malock, Evoqua manager, real estate.

“The facility will play a significant role in the groundbreaking research we are conducting to offer advanced water solutions across our target markets.”

According to the announcement, the company chose Lawrenceville in part because of the proximity to its Downtown headquarters.

The RIDC space offers Evoqua high clear heights, wide column spacing, and loading capabilities needed for the type of work it plans to do there. The company also sees the facility as a “showcase space” to conduct training and client events.

Greg Hopkins, a Jones Lang LaSalle vice president who helped to broker the deal for Evoqua, said the decision “reinforces the ongoing trend of corporate companies establishing a presence through the Strip District and Lawrenceville.”

The two adjacent neighborhoods have become known as robotics row because of the concentration of autonomous vehicle, robotics, and high tech companies.

Assisting Mr. Hopkins in the deal was JLL vice president Reid Mauro.

Even as Evoqua establishes a presence in Lawrenceville, it will keep its Downtown headquarters located on Sixth Avenue.
