Ambridge facility to close and lay off 179 workers

Marsden Services, L.L.C. filed a WARN notice with the state Department of Labor and Industry to notify that it will shut down operations at its Cart Repair Facility in Ambridge and lay off 179 employees.

The facility will close on June 30, 2023 “due to the loss of Marsden’s leasehold interest on the premises” at 2301 Duss Ave., Tony Fowler, Marsden’s director of operations, wrote in the WARN notice.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act seeks to ensure that employees receive advance notice of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs. The WARN Act requires employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of such closures or layoffs.

Marsden wrote that the notice comes with fewer than 60 days’ notice “due to the unforeseeable business circumstances created by the landlord’s notice of intent to terminate Marsden Services, L.L.C.’s leasehold at the above-referenced site.”

Nestle Health Science, a division of Nestle, filed a WARN notice with the state Department of Labor and Industry that it will shut down two plants in Allegheny County and lay off 312 employees.
