GNC fourth-quarter revenue up despite income drop

GNC Holdings Inc. today reported net income dropped 7.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, and 5.7 percent for the year, although the Pittsburgh-based health and wellness retailer did see slightly elevated revenue numbers.

In its quarterly financial release today, GNC showed fourth-quarter revenues of $618.2 million, a 1.8 percent increase over the $607.2 million reported in the fourth quarter of 2014. For all of 2015, revenue hit $2.64 billion compared with $2.61 billion in 2014, a 1 percent increase.

But adjusted net income for the last quarter fell from $53.9 million a year ago to $49.9 million, while the yearly net income was $246.5 million, down from $261.3 million in 2014.

CEO Mike Archbold said in a statement that the fourth-quarter results represent a third consecutive quarter of improving same store sales trends.

“The improving trends reflect the positive impact of our strategy and our initial effort to broaden our customer base and focus on meeting our customers wherever they are on their health and wellness journey,” he said.
