Arnold woman strangled; husband charged

Westmoreland County detectives announced today that they have charged an Arnold man with strangling his wife over the weekend.

David Clarke, 41, is accused of homicide in the death of his wife, Doreena Clarke, 40.

Mr. Clarke called 911 around 8:30 a.m. Saturday to report he had found his wife unresponsive at the bottom of stairs leading to the second floor of their home in the 1500 block of Third Avenue.

The county coroner's office said an autopsy by Cyril H. Wecht and Pathology Associates on Sunday found she died by asphyxiation due to manual strangulation.

Police said the autopsy also revealed "other multiple injuries not consistent with a natural death."
