McKeesport cops settle suit over mistaken raid for $50,000

McKeesport cops settle suit over mistaken raid for $50,000

A lawsuit has been settled for $50,000 in favor of a McKeesport man and his son who claim police wrongfully burst into their home looking for a murder suspect.

Darrell Mar Sr. and Darrell Mar Jr. sued a police supervisor after officers burst into their apartment in November 2004 on a telephone tip that the suspect was hiding there. The Mars sued, claiming the police had violated their constitutional rights.

Mr. Mar claims his son, who was just 10 at the time, suffered "extreme emotional distress" from the incident.

Police did not immediately comment on the settlement. But they had argued that they had probable cause for the search and were in the apartment for a minimal amount of time.
