Woman plunges to death from McKees Rocks Bridge

A woman died tonight after jumping off the McKees Rocks Bridge into the icy Ohio River.

The city's River Rescue squad pulled the 33-year-old woman from the water around 3 p.m. She was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said she died at 6:24 p.m.

She was later identified as Stacy L. Brown of Ross.

A River Rescue officer piloting the rescue boat said the river water temperature was 30 degrees. Generally, people can survive up to four minutes in water that cold, the officer said.

He said the woman was in the water for about 30 minutes.
