Audacy, the Philadelphia-based radio and podcast giant formerly known as Entercom, has acquired Pittsburgh’s WAMO format from Martz Communications Group, it announced Tuesday morning.
Audacy, which runs more than 235 stations nationwide, will provide programming to the hip-hop/R&B format of WAMO-AM (660) and its FM translator (107.3) beginning April 4.
The Audacy cluster in Pittsburgh also includes KDKA, 93.7 The Fan (KDKA-FM), 100.7 Star (WBZZ) and Y108 (WDSY).
“There are very few brands that have been as influential in the city of Pittsburgh as WAMO and I cannot express our level of excitement to welcome such a great radio station and the terrific staff to the Audacy Pittsburgh family,” Michael Spacciapolli, senior vice president and market manager for Audacy Pittsburgh, said in a statement Tuesday. “We will bring scale and leadership in the urban format, while continuing WAMO’s mission of celebrating cultural diversity and commitment to promoting quality diverse music, community support, fan engagement, and local and national news.”
Martz — which is based in Parishville, N.Y., and San Francisco — acquired WAMO in 2010 from the Massachusetts-based Langer Broadcasting.
