Greensburg passersby stepped into a time warp Tuesday when they encountered folks in 1940s garb galivanting around their Amtrak station.
The train stop was renamed “Rockford Station” for the day for filming of the Amazon Prime Video series “A League of Their Own,” an adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film of the same name. The movie chronicles the 1940s exploits of the Illinois-based Rockford Peaches in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
It was first confirmed in April that Amazon would be bringing its “A League of Their Own” production to the Pittsburgh area. The show is being co-created and executive produced by Will Graham and “Broad City” breakout Abbi Jacobson, who is also part of a cast that includes D’Arcy Carden (“The Good Place”), Chante Adams (“The Photograph”) and Nick Offerman (“Parks and Recreation”).
Filming began in July on the South Side and has continued into the fall in various locations around Western Pennsylvania, including a baseball field in Ambridge built specifically for the show on a former industrial site. In addition to “A League of Their Own,” crews are also currently shooting the IMDB TV series “Sprung” and Netflix film “Rustin” in the area.
