One of Pittsburgh’s major television news sources is expanding its broadcast slate beginning next week.
WTAE-TV is launching a new 4 p.m. newscast starting Tuesday. The hourlong show will be anchored by Andrew Stockey, Kelly Sasso and meteorologist Jeff Verszyla.
“The addition of this newscast means Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 is better positioned to provide our viewers with extra context of the big stories, breaking news and critical weather information,” WTAE news director Jim Parsons said in a statement. “WTAE Channel 4 has established a talented team of journalists viewers know they can trust to deliver news that is important to their lives each weeknight beginning now at 4:00 p.m.”
This new show will slightly alter WTAE’s lineup. Starting Tuesday, “Tamron Hall” will move from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m.; “Ellen” will move from 4 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and “Dr. Oz” will move from 10 a.m. to 1:05 a.m.
WTAE recently lost weekend morning anchor Chris Lovingood but gained weekend meteorologist Brian Hutton Jr. Now, it’s adding an additional newscast to its programming schedule.
“The past year proved Pittsburgh viewers value trustworthy information from their local journalists,” Charles W. Wolfertz III, WTAE’s president and general manager, said in a statement. “Viewers schedules have changed since the pandemic.
“We determined now is a perfect opportunity to provide those viewers with additional time options to watch Pittsburgh’s Action News 4.”
