Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon has been named showrunner of the CBS All Access series “Star Trek: Picard.”
Chabon is a University of Pittsburgh graduate and author of the award-winning “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.” His books “Wonder Boys” and “Mysteries of Pittsburgh” were made into movies that were filmed in Pittsburgh.
The announcement Thursday said Chabon is working closely with veteran “Star Trek” writer and producer Akiva Goldsman, and Alex Kurtzman, “who continues to oversee the expansion of the growing “Star Trek” universe for CBS Studios.”
The series continues the story of Jean-Luc Picard, with Patrick Stewart reprising his “Star Trek: The Next Generation” role as the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
“Despite a laundry list of accomplishments most writers only dream of, Michael shines with the heart and soul of a Trekkie who’s finally found his dream job,” Kurtzman said in a statement.
“‘Star Trek’ has been an important part of my way of thinking about the world, the future, human nature, storytelling and myself since I was 10 years old,” Chabon said in a statement. “I come to work every day in a state of joy and awe at having been entrusted with the character and the world of Jean-Luc Picard, with this vibrant strand of the rich, intricate and complex tapestry that is ‘Trek.’”
“Star Trek: Picard” is listed as “coming soon” to CBS All Access.
