“Gone” is gone, although American viewers can be excused for wondering if the TV show ever existed.
An international co-production among NBCUniversal International Studios, Germany’s RTL and France’s TF1, filmed-in-Pittsburgh “Gone” debuted its 12-episode first season on networks in France and Germany in January but never appeared to land an American outlet and has yet to air in the United States.
Pittsburgh crew members began posting about the show’s cancellation on social media sites last week; publicists for NBCU International did not respond to multiple queries about the show’s status. On Tuesday Pittsburgh Film Office director Dawn Keezer confirmed “Gone” will not return.
Executive produced by Western Pennsylvania native Kim Moses, the procedural drama was based on Chelsea Cain’s novel “One Kick.” “Gone” followed Kit “Kick” Lannigan (Leven Rambin, “True Detective,” “All My Children”), survivor of a child abduction case who teamed up years later with FBI agent Frank Booth (Chris Noth, “The Good Wife”) to become part of a special task force that investigates abduction and missing persons cases. “Gone” also starred Ross native Andy Mientus (“Smash”).
Ms. Moses, a “Gone” executive producer who grew up in Donora, will be honored Thursday with Steeltown Entertainment’s Elly Awards Impact Award for her commitment to bringing film and television jobs to Pittsburgh through “Gone.”
