KDKA's anchorwoman wears same dress for Penguins' success

KDKA’s Susan Koeppen is dressed for success.

The news anchorwoman is 4-0 (well, the Penguins are 4-0, to be precise) when she’s worn the same white dress on-air during the NHL playoffs.

“I’m very superstitious, so when I wore the dress for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals and we won, I thought to myself, ‘I really need to wear this dress again for Game 7’.... so I put it on Facebook and everyone agreed I should wear the dress again.”

The garment is a sleeveless white shift with black accents. It’s highly unusual for a TV newsperson to repeat an outfit, but in this case, Ms. Koeppen said she is happy to make an exception.

“I’ve been superstitious my whole life, so being superstitious about wearing the same dress is nothing new to me. As the anchor of a newscast, we always try to wear something different... in this case I have literally worn the same dress over and over and over again and having fun with it.”

Saturday’s game at San Jose will be the biggest test, since Ms. Koeppen won’t be on-air that day. Friends and family are going to drop by to watch: “I can’t imagine not wearing the dress for Game 3. Even if it is in my basement,” she said.

You think the basement is casual? Just wait until Game 4. Monday is Kennywood Day at her kids’ school.

“I will be bringing the dress and changing into it as soon as the game starts,” she said. “So if you happen to see a woman in a black-and-white dress, riding the Jack Rabbit, you’ll know it’s me.”
