Best Pittsburgh concerts this week: The New Mastersounds, Steve Forbert, Rick Wakeman and more

This weekend in Pittsburgh concerts: a prog-rock legend, vintage new wavers and funky Brits.

Tuesday

Rick Wakeman (Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall): This is the final tour for the caped keyboardist who joined Yes for the “Fragile” album and played on seven more of the British prog band’s albums. This is a solo show on piano and electronic keyboards that features Yes songs with his colorful stories in between. 8 p.m. $39.75; druskyentertainment.com.

Thursday

Steve Forbert (City Winery Pittsburgh): The clever folk rocker from Mississippi was touted as one of “the new Dylans” when he showed up on the scene in 1978 with “Alive on Arrival.” Since then, he’s done a fine job of living up to the billing. He turned 70 in December, six months after releasing his 20th album, “Daylight Savings Time.” 7:30 p.m. $22; citywinery.com.

A Flock of Seagulls (Jergel’s): The 67-year-old frontman, Mike Score, is the lone original member of the British new wave act that blew up in 1982 with the hits “I Ran (So Far Away)” and “Space Age Love Song.” In December, the band recaptured that soaring synth-and-guitar sound on “Some Dreams,” their first new album in almost 30 years. 8 p.m. $33; jergels.com.

Friday-Sunday

Chante Moore (City Winery): The R&B star who came to fame in the early ’90s with the debut album “Precious,” does a three-night stand at the intimate venue in the Strip District. The Grammy-nominated Moore, who made a high profile appearance at the 2022 Soul Train Music Awards and also appeared in the Chinese reality show “Singer 2024,” brings such songs as “Love's Taken Over,” “It's Alright,” and “Chante's Got A Man.” 7:30 p.m. $60; citywinery.com.

Saturday

The New Mastersounds (Thunderbird Music Hall): This jazz-funk-fusion quartet is 26 years into a career that began in 1999 in Leeds, England, and took shape at the Jazz Café in London. Given the band’s masterful sound, it’s no wonder it became a late-night staple at New Orleans Jazz Fest. This tour follows the group’s 15th album, “Old School,” which was followed by “Live at Cervantes Volume 1,” recorded on its 25th anniversary tour. 8 p.m. $29.50/$33; thunderbirdmusichall.com.

Blasey Does Bowie (Mr. Smalls): The Clarks frontman Scott Blasey, who displayed his range by covering The Police a few years ago at Mr. Smalls, now takes on the David Bowie catalog backed by a supergroup of Pittsburgh musicians. Tiny Wars opens. 7:30 p.m. $35 advance; $40 door; mrsmalls.com.

The Linda Lindas (Spirit Hall): This is a sold-out show with the all-female punk band from LA that held its own last summer on the stadium tour with Green Day, Rancid and Smashing Pumpkins. The tour supports sophomore album “No Obligation,” produced by former Reel Big Fish drummer Carlos de la Garza, the father of Linda Lindas members Lucia and Mila de la Garza. Pinkshift opens. 8 p.m.; spiritpgh.com.
