Dropkick Murphys respond to suspended account on X

We know that Kanye West was suspended from X for posting swastikas and porn.

But did the Dropkick Murphys just get the same treatment for criticizing Elon Musk, who claimed to have purchased X to protect free speech?

The Boston punk band got slapped with the suspension on, of all days, St. Patrick’s Day after a Boston show where frontman Ken Casey called out a fan sporting a MAGA hat.

“If you’re in a room full of people and you want to know who’s in a cult, how do you know who’s in a cult? They’ve been holding up a [expletive] hat the whole night to represent a president,” Casey said Sunday, as seen in fan videos.

He went on to call the black-on-black MAGA hat, favored by the billionaire and leader of DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), the “Elon Musk True Nazi edition.”

Casey’s rant triggered a mixed reaction of cheers and boos that’s tough to gauge.

Casey went on to say, “This is America. There’s no kings here!”

On Tuesday, Casey released this statement in response to the news of the suspension:

"We broke up with him first. We quit Twitter in 2022 when he was only half a Nazi. Then someone else took our handle, pretending to be our official account, so we filed a legal complaint to put a stop to that—which is why @dropkickmurphys shows as suspended. Look, we pulled our account because we didn't want to be part of that guy's empire. But if we were still on there, I'm sure he would have suspended us by now."

In an appearance on the MeidasTouch podcast Monday, Casey said, “Dropkick Murphys has always been about standing with your friends, your family, and the things you believe in.

“Trump is the exact opposite of everything we sing about. He’s turned on America’s friends and allies — he’s a rat and a coward.”

Casey also said, “There’s this whole mentality that MAGA has painted—like you’re either MAGA or you’re, you know, drinking soy lattes or whatever.

But there are a lot of people who are just like, ‘We’re just regular people—we don’t want a dictator, we don’t want to see people’s benefits ripped away...’”

The Boston band, which makes frequent trips to Pittsburgh, has long been known for working rowdy pro-union anthems into its sets.

On Monday, the band’s X account got the suspended branding with the message, “X suspends accounts which violate the X Rules.”

The discussion of the incident then heated up on Threads, Blue Sky and X itself.

As one poster noted, it’s like canceling Santa Claus on Christmas.

Anonymous posted on X, “Elon Musk, purveyor of FREE SPEECH suspended the @Dropkickmurphys account for speaking up against fascism and Trump.

[Expletive] Elon Musk. [Expletive] Donald Trump.”

From the account Chronic Mayhem, “I was a fan of the Dropkick Murphy's before and I definitely still am tonight. Yo @elonmusk what happened to free speech and why are you so petty? It's pathetic.”
