The Town Pants (The Original Pittsburgh Winery): The Winery has a national act for St. Paddy’s Day. The Celtic roots-rock band from Vancouver with six studio albums and two live albums to its credit. The Town Pants, which has performed in more than a dozen countries, describes its sound as "West Coast Celtic,” incorporating Irish traditional, folk-rock and roots-Americana. 8 p.m. $29; pittsburghwinery.com.

Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats (Petersen Events Center): After a decade of touring, the Americana-soul band led by the charismatic 46-year-old singer is on its first arena tour. It backs fourth album “South of Here,” which sent two singles, “Heartless” and “Call Me (Whatever You Like),” to the top of the adult alternative chart. Ian Munsick (Roxian Theatre): You can’t just say “country” with this rising star from Wyoming. You have to go with the full country-western, because it goes all the way back to the roots and sounds like nothing else on the radio. He hits McKees Rocks a month in advance of “Eagle Feather” (April 18), his third album and the followup to “White Buffalo.” 8 p.m. $47; roxiantheatre.com.
Randall Baumann’s Ramble (The Funhouse at Mr. Smalls): The latest all-star jam led by the WDVE morning show host features a double shot of The Commonheart (with singer Clinton Clegg and guitarist Mike Minda), plus Paul Luc (and his band), Chet Vincent, Andre Costello, Rob James, Jenn Wertz, Gibson Musisko, Addi Twigg, Morgan Erina, Mark Dignam, Cassie Prentiss and Anne Celedonia. Rufus Wainwright (City Winery Pittsburgh): The singer-songwriter whose sound was identified as “popera” when he debuted in the late ‘90s will play two shows in the Strip. Wainwright, the son of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle and older brother of Martha Wainwright, displayed his range on his last two projects, going from folk (“Folkocracy”) to classical “Dream Requiem.” On this tour, he’s playing the favorites from his catalog. 6 and 9 p.m. $85; pittsburgh.citywinery.com.
Poppy (Roxian Theatre): Moriah Pereira, the artist known as Poppy, comes to McKees Rocks touring behind “Negative Spaces,” her sixth album that plunges hard into Nine Inch Nails territory. SPIN has called Poppy “a creative chameleon” for her ventures into ska, electropop, pop-punk and metalcore. The opening act is Kumo. 8 p.m. $53; roxiantheatre.com.
Beasts of the 'Burgh 3 (Mr. Smalls) Chip Dominick has assembled this lineup of bands “from all corners of the Pittsburgh rock scene” representing metal, alt-rock and punk. Steve and the Millers (Rooted in Sound): The Steve is flutist Steve Sciulli (Carsickness, Plougman’s Lunch, Life in Balance) joined by harpist Stephanie Miller and hammer dulcimer player and percussionist Robert Miller. The ambient ethereal trio will create “a drifting textual sound environment” at Rooted in Sound, Aspinwall, to celebrate the release of new album “Care” on SSK Records, the label founded by Steven Machat (ELO, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Leonard Cohen). 7 p.m. $25; Preregistration is encouraged on Facebook.

Spyro Gyra (The Oaks Theatre): The pioneering jazz-fusion band formed in Buffalo celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with the collection “Jubilee” and with a tour stopping in Oakmont. Saxophonist and founder Jay Beckenstein will lead the group — Julio Fernandez (guitar), Chris Fischer (keyboards), Scott Ambush (bass), and Lionel Cordew (drums) — in its blend of jazz, R&B, Latin and world music. 8 p.m. $45; etix.com.
