Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival: The festival returns for a 13th edition with a stellar lineup of jazz and R&B artists over four nights at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, Downtown, and Highmark Stadium, Station Square. Here is the lineup:

Chris Botti (Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall): The Grammy-winning trumpeter and Blue Note recording artist arrives in Munhall having released “Vol. 1,” his first album in more than a decade. The focus is on acoustic jazz and classic standards with “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” “My Funny Valentine,” “Someday My Prince Will Come” and “Blue In Green,” as well as a cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You.” 8 p.m. $59.50; librarymusichall.com.

Old Dominion (PPG Paints Arena): The reigning ACM Group of the Year and CMA Vocal Group of the Year makes the move from Kenny Chesney opener to PPG Paints Arena headliner on the No Bad Vibes tour. The Nashville band, formed in 2012, first hit the country charts in 2014 with the single “Break Up With Him,” and has since returned to the top 5 with “Snapback,” “Song for Another Time,” “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” and more. The latest album was 2021’s “Time, Tequila & Therapy.” Also on the bill are Priscilla Block, Adam Doleac and Kylie Morgan. 7 p.m. $29; ticketmaster.com.

Melvins/Boris (Roxian): Melvins, the pioneering sludge metal band from Montesano, Wash., arrives at the Roxian on the Twins of Evil Tour with Japanese trio Boris. Melvins, celebrating a 40th anniversary, will perform the 1991 album “Bullhead” in full, while Boris will run through its 2002 album “Heavy Rocks.” “Since the mid-1980s, the Melvins have had an enormous influence on artists of all genres not only limited to heavy music, and have brought forth a surge of faithful followers over the years,” Boris’ Takeshi said in a statement. “Could anyone have predicted such an astonishing event, that Boris and the Melvins would tour the entire USA together? Needless to say, Boris is just one of these many bands influenced by the mighty Melvins, and we took our name from a song title off of the 1991 album, ‘Bullhead.’ ” Mr. Phylzzz opens at 8 p.m. $33; ticketmaster.com.

Oakland Block Party (Schenley Drive): Post Genre, the organizers of the first-ever Oakland Indie Festival, which drew 1,100 people this spring to benefit East Palestine, present this free eight-hour music festival on Schenley Drive (Cathedral of Learning) featuring performances by local musicians from Oakland. The lineup consists of Pitter Patter, Funky Lamp, Mr. Dr., 9fiftyseven, Trip Lotus, Valley View, Moontown, James Castle and Wild Blue Yonder. The event will showcase student vendor Elcon Threads, as well as local businesses such as City Grows, The Closet PGH, The Government Center and more. It runs from 3 to 11 p.m.

FRIDAY-SATURDAY

Steve Martin and Martin Short (Benedum): The two comedy legends, who appeared in the 1986 film “Three Amigos” and have been performing together since 2015, take the stage in this show titled “You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today!” They are joined by Jeff Babko and the Steep Canyon Rangers. Times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday; 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Just a few tickets left at $125; trustarts.org.

Millvale Days (Millvale): The community festival begins at 6 p.m. Friday with a car cruise, KSWA Wrestling, oldies DJ and music by Adam Fitz Band, The Argonauts, Evan Dean Band, Liz Berlin Band and the Regal Sweet on the Mr. Smalls and Double L outdoor stages. It continues from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday with kids activities, wrestling and music by The Marigolds, Zinnia’s Garden, Parable, Mirabelle Skipworth & The Brink Of, The Sun Champs, Jeremy Caywood Band, Smacked, Samjamwich and Bindley Hardware Co. $uicideboy$ (PPG Paints Arena): The Grey Day Tour hits PPG Paints Arena led by the edgy New Orleans hip-hop duo, of which NOLA.com wrote, “Their style is far removed from the braggadocious bling and polished hooks of more commercial hip-hop. Their aesthetic is often grimy, abrasive and nihilistic. Lyrics traffic in hopelessness, death, depression, drugs, suicide and addiction.” They added that there was a hopeful finish to the show, which also features Ghostemane, City Morgue, Sematary and Ramirez. 6:30 p.m. $57; ticketmaster.com.

Metal Immortal Festival 3 (Spirit): Pittsburgh’s own Lady Beast hosts the third annual vintage metal festival, on two stages at Spirit, headlined by Midnight, a Cleveland band that fuses speed metal, punk and black metal, and, from Cypress, Calif., Hirax, a thrash metal band that dates back to 1984. The lineup also includes Glacier, Nunslaughter and Lady Beast itself. It begins at 3 p.m. $45; brownpapertickets.com.

Parker McCollum (UPMC Events Center): The country/Americana singer from Austin, just here to open for Morgan Wallen, makes a quick return, bringing the country hits “To Be Loved By You” and “Handle on You.” With Jackson Dean. 7:30 p.m. $26; ticketmaster.com.
