In 1965, The Vogues entered Gateway Studios in Downtown Pittsburgh and came out with a finger-popping cover of the Petula Clark single "You're the One" that soared to No. 4 on the pop charts.
It was the first taste of success for the band that initially formed in 1958 as students at Turtle Creek High School.
Nick Cenci, the local producer behind Lou Christie, signed them to the Co & Ce label, leading to such enduring hits as “Five O’Clock World” (No. 4) and “Turn Around, Look at Me (No. 7),” appearances on national television and decades of success on the oldies circuit (as two split bands).
On Monday, the LA-based Omnivore Recordings announced the Feb. 24 release of “The Vogue’s At Co & Ce - The Complete Singles And More,” the first-ever collection of vocal group’s eight original singles (A- and B-sides) on the label. It will be the CD and digital debut of material that has been unavailable for nearly 60 years.
The set will also feature seven tracks from 1996’s out-of- print “You’re The One: The Best Of The Vogues (The Co & Ce Sessions).”
The liner notes were approved by Hugh Geyer and Chuck Blasko, the two surviving members of the original Vogues, which also featured frontman Bill Burkette and Don Miller.
