Best Pittsburgh concerts this week: Smashing Pumpkins, Gogol Bordello, Joe Satriani and more

MONDAY

The Airborne Toxic Event (Roxian): The indie-rock band from LA is touring behind sixth album “Hollywood Park,” which shared the name of the best-selling memoir by frontman Mikel Jollett, who spent his early childhood in a cult. Upon its release, he said of the album, “The record is a soundtrack to the book, an hour-long concept record taken from scenes from the book, from my attempt to make sense of the forces which have touched my life. The record is a studio-live rock 'n' roll record. We were helped by choirs, string musicians, horn players, and others helping us make this record full of screams and whispers and everything we love about music.” 8 p.m. $26; ticketmaster.com.

Sabaton (Stage AE): A North Shore visit from the Swedish metal band that toured with Judas Priest and next year will be featured in the movie "The War To End All Wars," a real life and animated story of World War I. With Epica. 7 p.m. doors. $36/$40; axs.com.

THURSDAY

Joe Satriani (The Palace Theatre): The guitar burner, founder of G3 and member of supergroup Chickenfoot hits Greensburg with a touring band consisting of legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Bryan Beller (bass) and keyboardist Rai Thistlethwayte. Satriani is supporting 19th album “The Elephants of Mars,” described by Guitar as “dark and jazzy, with elements of fusion and shred.” 7:30 p.m. $59.75-$99.75; thepalacetheatre.org.

Gogol Bordello (Mr. Smalls): Eugene Hutz, the Ukrainian-born frontman of this seven-piece New York gypsy punk band, went back to his hardcore roots with the new album “Solidaritine.” It was produces with hardcore/punk legend Walter Schreifels (Rival Schools, Quicksand) and included HR from Bad Brains adding vocals. He said in a statement, “Our music was always about perseverance. Rock ‘n’ roll comes out of a real place. Take a group of people who have endured immigrant traumas and dislocation. They create music, get successful together, become more baroque and experimental, and experience some years of relative calm. All of a sudden, humankind encounters these problems like the pandemic and the war. This is when rock ‘n’ roll is the most necessary and where we perform the best.” With Crazy and the Brains. 8 p.m. Sold out.

Billy Corgan and company have been busy in recent years, most recently adding the 2020 album “Cyr” to the catalog with another to follow in 2023.
