The Pirates sent out an email Monday afternoon that they will announce a concert for 2022 at the stadium on Thursday morning featuring “one of the most iconic musicians of the modern era.”
There is one artist who consistently holds press conferences for his tours and he happens to be announcing stadium shows right now for next year.
That would be Billy Joel.
The Piano Man did his last Pittsburgh show here in July 2016 at PNC Park.
On Friday night, he did his first monthly residency show at Madison Square Garden in New York since Feb. 20, 2020.
He recently announced June 25 at Notre Dame Stadium, July 9 at Comerica Park in Detroit and Sept. 23 at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
There is no official word from the Pirates on whether it’s Joel, but we’ll see on Thursday. Maybe we’ll be surprised.
