The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has only recently landed back in the city after a successful, 10-city European tour, but the ensemble’s next international visit has already been announced.
The PSO and music director Manfred Honeck will be the only American orchestra to perform during the centennial Salzburg Festival in Austria, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Mr. Honeck will lead the Pittsburgh Symphony in music by Bartok and Beethoven. The Festival’s centennial coincides with the PSO’s 125th anniversary season.
The Salzburg Festival is a significant global cultural event that will include 222 performances over 44 days in July and August 2020, ranging from operas to dramatic performances to concerts and more. The roster of orchestras performing includes the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic and other world-renowned ensembles.
The PSO last performed at the Salzburg Festival in 2017.
