The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is presenting guitarist Joe Negri with its second annual JazzLive Legacy Award on Tuesday at the Greer Cabaret Theater in the Cultural District. The award, which goes to local artists, is being given in recognition of Jazz Appreciation Month during a concert with bassist Ron Carter.
“His personal legacy will stand the test of time,” said Terri Bell, vice president of strategic partnerships and community engagement for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. “He’s done so much for jazz. He inspired so many musicians.”
Mr. Negri, who is best known for playing Handyman Negri on public television’s “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” teaches at Duquesne University and continues to perform.
The award will be presented by pianist Max Leake. Last year’s recipient, drummer Roger Humphries, received the first award from Harry Clark, a founder of Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12.
