The Garth Brooks concert on May 18 is set to break the attendance record at Heinz Field.
Stadium management announced Tuesday that the concert by the country superstar is now sold out with 72,887 tickets purchased.
The previous record was 69,983 tickets sold for the Pitt-Penn State game on Sept. 10, 2016. The previous record for a concert was Taylor Swift’s sellout last year at 56,445, followed by the Rolling Stones in 2015 at 55,970.
“The in-the-round seating for Garth allows for every seat in the stadium to be open, whereas most of the other shows we have to close off any seats in the south end and south corners,” says Nick Sero, communications manager at Heinz Field. “This show also has a bit of a larger group of people on the floor.”
It will be Mr. Brooks’ first stadium concert in Pittsburgh and his first visit here since playing two nights at what was then the Consol Energy Center in 2015. He recently worked with the Pirates at spring training in Bradenton, Fla.
