Code Orange member Reba Meyers has a new guitar. A lot of them, actually.
On social media Thursday, guitar maker ESP introduced the Reba Meyers LTD RM-600, a sleek Viper-shaped model with mahogany body and a black marble satin finish.
The charismatic Pittsburgh metal musician becomes the first female to release her own ESP Signature guitar.
In terms of specs, it has a 3-piece maple neck with Macassar ebony fingerboard, a reverse headstock based on the LTD M Series with special orange LTD logo, a single EMP 81 pickup, and an EMG TKO kill switch.
In all, there are about 40 different guitars in the signature series, featuring such artists as Ron Wood, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Jeff Hanneman (Slayer) and Brian “Head” Welch (Korn).
In an accompanying interview on the ESP site, they ask Meyers her thoughts on what the guitar manufacturer should do to help bring more young women in to the world of guitar-driven music.
She says, in part, “... the way guitars are marketed are primarily geared toward men. When you see ads for guitars, especially metal-style guitars, you never even see women. And if you do, a lot of times it feels like a ploy just to create more revenue, and not a genuine intention to be inclusive. It’s a tough line, but in the end, do what you can to let people know that guitar isn’t just for men, or just for any one kind of person.”
