Over the past decade, Mac Miller charted six albums/mixtapes in the Top 5 on Billboard, including the No. 1 “Blue Slide Park.” But it wasn’t until this week that the Pittsburgh rapper scored a Top 40 hit single.
In the days following his death on Sept. 7, three of his songs landed in the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “Self Care” at No. 33, making it his highest-charting hit to date. It was streamed 18.4 million times in the U.S. and sold 8,000 downloads in the week ending Sept. 13. “Hurt Feelings" and "Come Back to Earth" entered the Hot 100 at Nos. 70 and 91, respectively.
His new album, “Swimming,” which debuted at No. 3 in August, jumped from No. 71 to No. 6.
Six other albums/mixtapes albums popped up on the Billboard 200: “Best Day Ever” (No. 26), “GO:OD AM” (No. 32, re-entry); “Blue Slide Park” (No. 49, re-entry); “The Divine Feminine” (No. 50, re-entry); “Watching Movies With the Sound Off” (No. 59, re-entry); and “Macadelic” (No. 106, re-entry).
In 2013, “The Way,” a song by ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande that featured Miller, went to No. 9 in 2013.
Speaking of Grande, the singer/actress was expected at the Emmys Monday night along with actor boyfriend Pete Davidson, but she bailed out.
Her publicist released a statement to People, saying, “Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend. She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
