Wouldn’t it be nice if Brian Wilson added a Pittsburgh date to the Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour?
That’s what Opus One Productions and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust were thinking, and they made it happen.
The legendary co-founder of the Beach Boys will make a tour stop at the Benedum Center on Aug. 25.
Tickets start at $39.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at www.trustarts.org, by phone at 412-456-6666 and at the Box Office at Theatre Square.
Wilson and his stellar band, with special guests Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin of the Beach Boys, will perform the innovative, orchestral 1966 work that Rolling Stone ranked just behind “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” as No. 2 on the list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The difficult making of the album was depicted in last year’s biopic “Love & Mercy.”
“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing ‘Pet Sounds’ 50 years ago,” Wilson, 73, said in a statement. “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.”
The tour begins March 26 in New Zealand and will visit Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, Spain, Israel and Portugal before coming to the United States in June.
In addition to “Pet Sounds,” which includes such classics as “Wouldn’t it Be Nice,” “Sloop John B” and “God Only Knows,” the concert will feature other hits and fan favorites.
