Is it possible to have a mid-life crisis if you’re a toy?
Disney Pixar’s release of the first trailer for “Toy Story 4” returns with the usual gang of sentient toys welcoming a new addition to Bonnie’s collection: a messy little school project she calls Forky (voiced by Tony Hale).
Forky the spork seems to have some adapting issues, as, well, he doesn’t consider himself a toy. But trust Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) to come to the rescue. Until …
One of the best things about the “Toy Story” films has been its deft spinning off into new worlds, and the exploration of what it means to be so, so important to a child.
In this case, Forky doesn’t seem to be buying this I-am-a-toy identity. His refusal will lead to new adventures, a reunion with an old friend and, chillingly, pursuit by some extremely creepy ventriloquist dummies (is that redundant?).
“Sometimes, change can be good,” Bo Peep (Annie Potts) tells Woody, who finds there is life beyond “his” child’s room. Perhaps a better life?
Set to the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” the “Toy Story 4” trailer confirms what we already knew: Stock up on Kleenex come June 21.
