Wizard World Comic Con won't be back in Pittsburgh this year

Wizard World Comic Con is not returning in 2017 after two years at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and next year is still a question mark.

In January 2015, the national company acquired Pittsburgh Comicon as part of Wizard World's expansion to produce 25 events, from San Jose to Philadelphia. The 2017 slate was announced in October to include 16 cities, and there will be no additional cities. A spokesman said next year’s schedule has not yet been set.

Wizard World was here previously last year, with guests including Charlie Cox of the Netflix show “Daredevil” and Evan Peters of the “X-Men” franchise and FX’s “American Horror Story.”

Among Wizard World’s pop-culture competition in the Pittsburgh area is our own mega-local comic convention, Orangestone Production’s Steel City Con, which is still going strong with three shows each year at the Monroeville Convention Center and boasts 750 vendor tables. This year, Steel City added a fourth — a horror showcase in June.

Steel City’s guests for its Aug. 11-13 con include actors Burt Reynolds, Ralph Macchio and three "Brady Bunch" siblings, Barry Williams, Mike Lookinland and Susan Olsen.
