Two Pittsburgh comic-book artists were celebrated with Eisner Awards last weekend at the Comic-Con International in San Diego. The 27th annual Eisners, considered the “Oscars” of the comic-book world, honored Ed Piskor’s “Hip Hop Family Tree, Vol. 2” (Fantagraphics) as Best Reality-Based Work for and Jim Rugg won for Best Publication Design of “Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream” (Locust Moon).
Winsor McCay’s classic newspaper series “Little Nemo” had four Eisner wins, including Best New Anthology for “Dream Another Dream,” a book representing more than 100 original comic strips by top illustrators, all inspired by McCay.Pittsburgh’s ToonSeum recently showcased the anthology with an exhibition of dozens of works by Mr. Rugg and other top comic-book artists.
