The Steelers signed free agent defensive end Ricardo Mathews to a one-year contract today, giving the Steelers some depth at a position where they need it.
Mathews is entering his seventh season and played previously with the Chargers and Colts. He was a seventh-round draft choice of the Colts in 2010.
Mathews started seven games for the Chargers last season. For his career, he has played in 80 games and recorded 15 starts.
The Steelers also played host to free agent defensive lineman Jack Crawford today.
Mathews joins L.T. Walton as the only reserves behind starters Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt. The Steelers elected not to re-sign Cam Thomas, who spent the past two seasons with the team.
