Mike Lange planning to increase his workload in 2018-19

The Penguins broadcaster said Friday he'll call 12-15 road games this season

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike Lange will call 12 to 15 road games this season, an increase from the workload he had in 2017-18.

Lange made the announcement on “The Scoop,” one of two podcasts launched by the Penguins on Friday.

“There are times when I can miss being on the road. It’s in your blood, honestly,” Lange said. “I do think it served me well. We’re going to try and do the same basic thing — 12-15 games on the road, see how that works out.”

Lange will continue to call every home game. For the road trips he doesn’t take, Josh Getzoff will handle play-by-play duties alongside Phil Bourque.

Lange set out last season to do a similar number of games; however, a lingering injury kept Lange at home for all but a few. With that behind him, Lange is ready to enjoy the road a little more this season.

“I enjoyed listening to the games for the first time in my life,” Lange told Getzoff. “I could listen to you guys and laugh a little bit at you. It’s been good. I hope it’s going to be successful and the fans have been appreciative of it.”
