Pittsburgh, Philly fans will have french fry face off at Stadium Series

You’d be hard pressed to find a Pittsburgh hockey fan who isn’t certain the Penguins will outshoot the Philadelphia Flyers at Saturday’s Stadium Series game at Heinz Field. But betting on which city serves as better inspiration for a concession stand snack? That’s a loaded question.

Especially so when it involves french fries, which the folks at Aramark, Heinz’s food and beverage provider, will be dishing up in spades during the evening event.

Are you more of a roasted meat fan, or do you always go with chicken, preferably fried, when it comes to protein? Both choices will be on the concession stand menu in what Aramark is billing as a “Fry Stak Face-Off.”

Pittsburgh’s version of the dish, the Steel City Pot Roast Stak, starts with a bowl of crispy french fries. House-braised pot roast comes next, followed by savory meat gravy and a pile of colby and cheddar cheeses.

The City of Brotherly Love’s interpretation of the dish, conversely called the Philly Chicken & Waffle Fry Stak, features criss-cut fried potatoes topped with breaded chicken bites and crispy maple-glazed bacon. A green onion garnish adds crunch, and the stak also includes a drizzle of smoked Gouda gravy.

Both versions cost $15 and are meant for sharing. You can find them by Section 136 on the main concourse (Allegheny Chicken and Fry Co.).

Aramark also is the food and beverage partner of the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center and Penguins at PPG Paints Arena.

How the Pot Roast Stak stacks up against the Chicken & Waffle Fry Stak will depend largely on whether you pledge allegiance to your city, or your stomach. But both will require you to loosen your belt buckles between periods.
